The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act helps ensure that children and youth experiencing homelessness or unstable housing have equal access to a free, appropriate public education.
Students and families may qualify for protections when living in situations such as:
- Doubled up with family or friends due to economic conditions
- Motels or hotels because other suitable housing is unavailable
- Homeless or domestic violence shelters
- Cars, trailers, or campgrounds
